Brian Urlacher is FINALLY Getting a Proper Send-off and Other Bullets

My childhood best friend just got engaged and is getting married in 2020, which means I have a little more than 600 days to find a date to his wedding. Shouldn’t be a problem. Right?

  • Not only is the Bears’ home opener the team’s second consecutive prime-time game, it’s one where it will honor Brian Urlacher, one of the franchise’s greatest players (and its latest Hall of Famer). Radio play-by-play man Jeff Joniak sat down for a one-on-one with a great one ahead of Monday night’s match-up:
  • Urlacher’s career didn’t get the send-off it deserved, so it will be awesome to see him get it while under the bright lights of Soldier Field where he played some of his greatest games.
  • Are you going to the game tonight? Of course you are. Mobile tickets are now being accepted for Bears games at Soldier Field. You’ll want to read this and prepare yourself before getting to your ticket gate. Enjoy yourselves, friends!
  • Keep this in mind if you’re going to the game tonight:
  • In case you missed it over the weekend, the Seahawks will be without two Pro Bowl linebackers in their starting lineup, as Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright have been ruled out for Monday night’s contest. Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times wonders if now is the time where Tarik Cohen will be fully unleashed. Cohen played 28 snaps (40 percent) and received 10 touches (5 rushes, 3 receptions) in Week 1 against the Packers, but could be in line for an expanded opportunity against a banged-up defense. Seattle’s defense yielded 188 scrimmage yards on 36 touches to Denver’s three running backs, with a huge chunk coming from Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman each gaining 71 rushing yards on 15 carries. The Bears might be wise to follow the blueprint laid out by the Broncos with Cohen and Jordan Howard.
  • One thing the Bears should try to avoid is a repeat of Case Keenum’s Week 1 performance against the Seahawks secondary, which picked off Denver’s quarterback three times. Remember, Keenum was intercepted just seven times all of last season.
  • Even though the Seahawks’ offense will be without Pro Bowl receiver Doug Baldwin, let’s not sleep on Tyler Lockett. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune sees Lockett as a proven deep threat who could give Chicago’s secondary some problems if Seattle pushes the vertical game. Lockett caught three passes for 59 yards in Week 1, with 51 of those yards coming on one big play. The Kansas State product had a career long 74-yard reception in 2017 and is not to be underestimated.
  • Over at NBC Sports Chicago, JJ Stankevitz writes the Seahawks’ offense could provide an opportunity for the Bears’ defense to come away with a statement game. Quarterback Russell Wilson was sacked six times, threw two interceptions, and fumbled twice (neither of which was lost) in a Week 1 loss to Denver. There could be ample opportunities for Chicago’s defense to bounce back after last week’s meltdown.
  • I’m not sure where Danny Trevathan is going with this, but count me in:
  • Hey, this could be a heck of a time for the Bears offense to get on the right path … and bonus points if it starts with Trey Burton. Colleen Kane of the Tribune reports the Bears’ tight end is donating $1,000 for each catch and $2,500 for each touchdown to the International Justice Mission. Touchdowns for human rights organizations? I like that.
  • The Bears deserve a tip of the cap for their social justice initiatives. Here’s to keeping it moving forward.
  • I have a new appreciation for this tweet:
  • Are you wagering on tonight’s game? Some things to consider before you make an investment:
  • And if you’re looking forward to next week, it’s worth noting the Bears have opened as 4.5-point favorites against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. Chicago being a road favorite is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. It will mark the first time the Bears have been favored to win a game in consecutive weeks in quite some time. But how about winning one first. Please?
  • Seriously:
  • Speaking of weighing the odds, the Bears pop up on an oddsmakers’ site among the teams that could sign wide receiver Josh Gordon should he make it to free agency:
  • I don’t feel like it’s a 10-to-1 shot that the Bears add Gordon to this mix of receivers, but GM Ryan Pace has been known to do some unexpected things in his time running this team. And I feel as if adding the talented, yet troubled wideout is something that could be in his wheelhouse. I wouldn’t bet on it, but I’ve also come to realize I wouldn’t bet against him taking a shot either.
  • *points in Jon Gruden’s general direction* HA HA:
  • Hopefully Khalil Mack and the Bears do right by “The OG” tonight:
  • An update on Aaron Rodgers’ knee injury:
  • The Bears aren’t playing the Bills until Week 9, but cornerback Vontae Davis retiring mid-game is worth sharing:
