Mitch Trubisky’s passing options are going to look a little different than what he has grown accustomed to this season:
Bears’ WR Allen Robinson, listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Jets due to a groin injury, is not expected to play, per source.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter hears that Bears receiver Allen Robinson isn’t expected to play on Sunday because of a groin injury that has hindered him since the end of the Dolphins game in Week 6. Robinson has missed practices in each of the last two weeks and tried to gut it out and play through the injury in Week 7. It didn’t end as well as anyone would’ve wanted, with Robinson missing a chunk of the fourth quarter and being on a limited snap count. So while the Bears listed Robinson as questionable for Sunday’s game, it looks like they’ll play it cautiously and hope a week off gets the talented receiver on the right path for a successful return.
If Robinson can’t go, rookie Javon Wims could be activated and placed on the 46-man game day roster. Wims has been active for just one game and logged only one snap back in Week 4. Even though Wims was a breakout performer in the preseason, his potential addition to the game-day roster would be mostly for depth purposes. Robinson’s absence would most likely open the door for an increased snap count for Kevin White and Josh Bellamy. White caught his first two passes of the year in Week 7, while Bellamy didn’t do himself any favors last week when he lost a ball in the sun, then lost a battle for a ball that ended up being a Patriots interception.
The Bears signed Robinson as a free agent to give Trubisky a reliable, big-bodied target he could go to in tight spots. But the team also signed Taylor Gabriel and drafted Anthony Miller to provide depth and upside to the position group. Add tight end Trey Burton to the mix and Chicago is better prepared to handle the loss of its leading pass catcher in 2018 than it was at any point last season. With that in mind, it’s clear the Bears are making the right call by keeping Robinson out of the lineup for Sunday’s game.
