If Ty Montgomery is going to atone for his costly blunder, he’ll have to do it by way of an apologetic video message, or card, or maybe some sky-writing if he’s feeling creative. That’s because the next snap he takes will be in a Baltimore Ravens uniform:

Sigh, only the Packers could get something in a trade of a player who blatantly disregarded a coach’s orders.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports the Packers are trading Montgomery to the Ravens for a seventh-round pick in 2020. That is essentially as low as it can get on the compensation power rankings chart, but I suppose it’s better than releasing him outright and not getting anything in return.
Green Bay drafted Montgomery in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft to play wide receiver. The Stanford product (aside: seriously, how does someone who went to Stanford make that big of a boner in a prime-time slot?) was a Consensus All-American in 2013 when he caught 61 passes for 958 yards and 10 touchdowns, but transitioned into a running back in 2016. And because the Packers’ devil magic is as strong as that of the Cardinals, Montgomery’s first game as a starting running back came against the Bears as he turned in the best game of his career. Montgomery rushed 16 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-27 Packers win. Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up!
When viewing the news of Montgomery’s trade through that lens, Bears fans probably aren’t sad to see him go. But after the stunt he pulled on Sunday, I’d venture to say everyone is square and even.
