Mitch Trubisky might not care about what about is being said about him outside Halas Hall. But if there was ever a week to tune in, this might be it.
One day after being rewarded with the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week award, Trubisky was voted FedEx’s NFL Air Player of the Week for his performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Don’t you love when democracy actually works?
Trubisky completed 76.7 percent of his passes, threw for 355 yards, and three touchdowns in what was an all-time great performance by a Chicago Bears quarterback. Seven of his 20 completions traveled at least 15 yards in the air, two of which went for touchdowns. Those are the types of numbers worthy of “Air Player of the Week.” That he added on a rushing touchdown and led his team to its first win against an NFC North rival for the first time since the 2016 calendar year represents mere sprinkles on top of the iced out cake that has been his productive second season as the Bears’ starting quarterback.
And for good measure, FedEx donates $2,000 to the United Services Organizations in Trubisky’s name. Few things warm my heart this time of year like donations toward worthwhile causes.
This is Trubisky’s second “Air Player of the Week” award. And while outside validation isn’t something that appears to be on Trubisky’s mind, it’s still great to see those outside of the Halas Hall bubble present the Bears quarterback with a nice honor. Great work, QB1. Here’s hoping there are more of these in your future.
