It was Cody Parkey Redemption Night at Club Dub, which was open late on Sunday at Soldier Field:
Look and listen to how the Chicago Bears have rallied around their kicker. That is what it looks and sounds like when everyone has each other’s backs, is pulling from the same end of the rope, and working toward a common end game. Teams can talk about the band of brothers and playing for the guy next to you, but this Bears team is going out of their way to be about the things they talk about. And frankly, it’s refreshing and encouraging all at the same time.
It would have been easy for things to go sideways after last week, but the Bears’ confidence in Parkey was not shaken after his four-miss clunker against the Lions. And because I believe confidence breeds excellence, I’m not surprised Parkey had a big game against the Vikings despite playing under a microscope. Of course, practicing at Soldier Field probably helped a bit.
After Sunday’s 3-for-3 performance, your confidence in Parkey should be restored to the levels they were at when he opened the season making 9 of 10 in the first four games of the season. Let’s face it, a Pro Bowl kicker for a playoff team as a rookie and owned an 86.4 percent success rate prior to signing with the Bears didn’t forget how to make field goals overnight. Cody Parkey is back and the Bears are better for it.
