You can scratch the Miami Dolphins off the list of suitors for Vic Fangio.
Update on #Bears DC Vic Fangio: The #Dolphins, who requested him and did research, ended up not scheduling an interview with Fangio. So, it’s just the #Broncos for him. Miami, meanwhile, is still slated to interview ST coach Darren Rizzi this week.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports the Dolphins did not schedule an interview with the Chicago Bears’ defensive coordinator to fill their vacant head-coaching position. Even though the Dolphins requested an interview last week and did their due diligence and research, the team has decided to pass on giving Fangio an interview and will move on elsewhere in their search. This news leaves the Denver Broncos as the only team scheduled for an interview with Fangio.
And whaddya know, Mike Klis of 9News reports the Broncos’ search committee was in the Chicagoland area ahead of their scheduled interview with Fangio. Even though Fangio wasn’t focused on interview prep last week, the Bears’ DC was expected to interview with the Broncos today. Denver appears to be a logical fit and is viewed as a betting favorites to land Fangio as Vance Joseph’s replacement as head coach. Those odds will probably improve slightly with Miami dropping out of the race.
If it comes down to it, Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy says he has a plan if Fangio leaves to take a head-coaching gig. So at least the Bears have that going for them. But now that Chicago has been eliminated from postseason play, Fangio is free to talk with other teams and leave if the right offer comes along.
Welcome to Day 1 of the offseason. It’s all ahead of us on the rainy, gray, and gloomy Monday morning.
