If Dodgeball Is Any Indication, Mitch Trubisky Has Some Serious Work to Do and Other Bullets

Nothing like trying out kickers on a day when it’s negative-2 degrees outside. Good luck with that, Nick Folk and friends.

  • For as bad as the product has been on the field and for all the mismanagement along the way, Bears fans could at least take solace in that they weren’t the Browns. And even though it’s looking better for Cleveland right now, ugly things from a recent past still find a way to rear their ugly heads. ESPN’s Seth Wickersham goes inside the Browns and the internal turmoil starring the high-profile clashing of Head Coach Hue Jackson, Owner Jimmy Haslam, and quarterback Baker Mayfield. Going through the piece line-for-line gave me a better appreciation of the McCaskeys, even though I know things haven’t always been smooth sailing on that end. There’s bad … and then there’s what the Browns have been. Sheesh.
  • There are also Bears-related ties as Wickersham reports Jackson had no interest in taking Mitch Trubisky first in the 2017 NFL Draft, going as far as to put pictures of Myles Garrett on the walls of the owner’s office. But given what we know about Jackson’s questionable decision-making (looking at you, DeShone Kizer), I feel better about Trubisky’s  future knowing how adamant Jackson was about being out on him.
  • To be clear, Trubisky isn’t a finished product and still has some work to do before he gets to where Bears fans want him to be. We can start with his footwork:
  • Situational awareness could use some work, too, if you really want to pick it apart.
  • The NFC actually won the Pro Bowl skills competition. And that means Mitch Trubisky is a winning quarterback and no one can ever take that away from him. Oh, and he looked good while doing it:
  • We’ll have more on his performance there later today, stay tuned.
  • Elsewhere in the skills competition, I have questions about what Akiem Hicks was doing in dodgeball:
  • I want these guys mic’d up all weekend:
  • Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy needs to make room in his trophy case after being named the NFC Coach of the Year by the NFL 101 Awards.
  • Not to be lost in the shuffle, Bears DC Chuck Pagano introduced himself to the Chicago media on Thursday at Halas Hall and his first presser did not disappoint.
  • Bears players loved working and playing for Vic Fangio, but there is definitely a buzz building around the opportunity to get down with Pagano. Larry Mayer of the Bears’ official website catches up with the Pro Bowlers who are excited to work with their new defensive coordinator.
  • Is it possible the Bears might not need to look no further than Mobile, Ala. for their next kicker:
  • In other Senior Bowl visit news:
  • Kris Boyd is one of the most intriguing cornerback prospects in this draft. And that he is playing in the Senior Bowl will allow us to give us an extended look at a potential slot corner for a team that needs one in a division with offenses that live in 3-WR formations.
  • Bear the heck down!
  • There could be some future Pro Bowl skills competition legends here. Keep your eyes peeled.
  • Get your Bears gear!
