If the Bears are going to knock off the Saints, they’ll need their stars to shine.
And as fate would have it, the Bears have enough star-power to do it. But how many opportunities will they get to do the necessary heavy lifting remains to be seen.
Khalil Mack is Pro Football Focus’ highest-ranked pass-rusher through six weeks, even after the Raiders took him out of the equation in Week 5. Mack needs to be elite, especially with defensive end Akiem Hicks out of the lineup for the next eight weeks. Allen Robinson is the Bears’ highest-graded offensive player on PFF’s scale, and has looked every bit of it. Robinson lit it up against the Raiders in Week 5 while Chase Daniel was slinging it, but a matchup against New Orleans’ Marshon Lattimore is a daunting task that looms this afternoon.
Having a bye week after a loss should have opened the door for everyone involved to take an extended look in the mirror and do some self-scouting and internal evaluation. Chicago should be prepared to bounce back in a big way against a team without its starting quarterback, running back, and tight end. Sure, the Saints are a first-place team with a defense that is on fire. But the Bears have all the motivation needed to squeeze through with a victory.
