The Chicago Bears will be without one of their starting cornerbacks tonight against a team that has a slew of pass-catching options at wide receiver.
Prince Amukamara is being held out of tonight’s game against the Cowboys because of a hamstring injury. Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy told reporters earlier in the week that Amukamara reported the injury after the team’s win against the Lions on Thanksgiving. Amukamara has missed just two defensive snaps in the last two games, so to say he will be missed because he is inactive tonight isn’t just lip service.
With Amukamara out, the Bears could turn to a number of options to eat up those snaps. Second-year undrafted cornerback Kevin Toliver II figures to see a chunk of the action. Slot cornerback Buster Skrine could slide outside to play if necessary, which could lead to the Bears throwing safety Eddie Jackson into the nickel back role. In any case, that the Bears have to shuffle the chairs on the defense is a cause for concern as the Bears are set to face the likes of Amari Cooper, Randall Cobb, and Michael Gallup.
