The NFL Scouting Combine features draft-eligible prospects showcasing their skills in front of NFL front office executives, scouts, coaches, and fans who tune in on NFL Network to take in the event. If the Bears are going to get back to their winning ways, the process will begin with successful scouting at the Combine that serves as a springboard to a building a strong draft board. So let’s highlight some prospects working out in today’s drills and see if we can find some future fits.
Previous: None.
Today: Quarterbacks, Tight Ends, Wide Receivers
TOP 10 QUARTERBACKS AT THE COMBINE
- Joe Burrow, LSU
- Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama
- Justin Herbert, Oregon
- Jordan Love, Utah State
- Jacob Eason, Georgia
- Jake Fromm, Georgia
- Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma
- Anthony Gordon, Washington State
- Cole McDonald, Hawaii
- Steven Montez, Colorado
These quarterbacks have met with the Bears: James Morgan, Florida International; Jake Fromm, Georgia
One to watch: Jalen Hurts was a winner at Alabama and Oklahoma. And his ability to pick up Lincoln Riley’s offense upon arriving to Sooners camp is impressive. How Hurts performs during drills could help boost his draft stock, which is projected to be in the Round 4 range.
TOP 10 TIGHT ENDS AT THE COMBINE
- Cole Kmet, Notre Dame
- Brycen Hopkins, Purdue
- Jared Pinkney, Vanderbilt
- Hunter Bryant, Washington
- Thaddeus Moss, LSU
- Adam Trautman, Dayton
- Harrison Bryant, Florida Atlantic
- Albert Okwuegbunam, Missouri
- Jacob Breeland, Oregon
- Cheyenne (C.J.) O’Grady, Arkansas
These tight ends have met with the Bears: Brycen Hopkins, Purdue; Dalton Keene, Virginia Tech; Jared Pinkney, Vanderbilt; Adam Trautman, Dayton
One to watch: When catching up with Cole Kmet, The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain noted the Notre Dame product “didn’t shy away from his Bears fandom.” That’s kinda neat.
TOP 10 WIDE RECEIVERS AT THE COMBINE
- CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma
- Jerry Jeudy, Alabama
- Henry Ruggs III, Alabama
- Tee Higgins, Clemson
- Laviska Shenault Jr., Colorado
- Brandon Aiyuk, Arizona St.
- Jalen Reagor, TCU
- Justin Jefferson, LSU
- KJ Hamler, Penn State
- Denzel Mims, Baylor
These wide receivers have met with the Bears: Gabriel Davis, UCF; Van Jefferson, Florida; Jauan Jennings, Tennessee; Joe Reed, Virginia; Binjmen Victor, Ohio State
One to watch: KJ Hamler is a speedster. The Bears desperately need to add speed at the wide receiver position. Last year, Mecole Hardman opened eyes with his blazing 40-time, which helped moved him up draft boards before ultimately being selected by the Chiefs in the second round. An impressive showing at this year’s Scouting Combine could have similar results for Hamler.
