We all know how the game finished.
If you don’t, well, I won’t spoil it for you. But if you already know how it ends and want to re-live the moment, here’s something special for you:
The ending of that game was memorable, to be sure. But does anyone remember how things were going leading up to it? Because the vibes were tremendous and I remember it like it happened yesterday.
Rex Grossman was rolling. He owned a quarterback rating of 100.8 and had TD-INT ratio better than 2-to-1. Heading into Monday Night Football, Grossman was on pace to throw for 3,978 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions (Note: Rex did not play to that pace for the rest of the year). Thomas Jones was well on his way to an impressive 1,200-yard rushing season. A defense led by Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, Mike Brown, Peanut Tillman, and Tommie Harris were roughing up offenses left and right. This team was the truth.
And then Monday Night Football happened …
