The Chicago Bears announced the death of former chairman Michael McCaskey at the age of 76 after a fight with cancer.
McCaskey was the oldest of Virginia McCaskey’s sons, and of George S. Halas’ grandchildren. He served in a number of different capacities for the franchise, most notably as team president from 1983-1999. During McCaskey’s time as president, the Bears won six division championships and won Super Bowl XX. Following the team’s epic Super Bowl run, McCaskey’s peers voted him as the league’s Executive of the Year.
