Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is part of an investment group that is purchasing the XFL for $15 million, according to sportico.
The pro wrestling icon turned blockbuster movie star is the headliner of the professional football league’s purchasing group, which is taking over from the ashes left behind by Vince McMahon’s re-boot. The XFL 2.0 was an entertaining endeavor while it lasted, providing a brief distraction while it was around. But like the rest of the sports universe, the COVID-19 pandemic threw the league’s season for a loop and ultimately caused it to close its doors.
How the XFL will get back into the football arena is unclear right now, but having The Rock on board is a big deal. If only because of the gravitas that comes with being The Freakin’ Rock. Predicting how things go with the alternative football league is foolish, but I’ll always find myself intrigued with these types of experiments. And because football fans are often looking to branch out, I doubt I’ll be alone.
