It was eye-opening to see that the Bears were bringing in quarterback Mason Fine for a workout.
Honestly, I thought bringing in a developmental project was long overdue.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s nice having quarterbacks who know the system and can teach it to others. However, at some point, it’s better for the big picture to bring in a work-in-progress and see if he sticks. This isn’t to say that one will. But as Michael Scott once said Wayne Gretzky said: “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.” And the Bears hadn’t taken any shots in Nagy’s first two years.
So, perhaps with the spirit of competition and development in mind, the Bears are reportedly set to work out another QB:
Per Facebook, FA QB Kyle Sloter will be working out for the #Bears next week after quarantining for a couple days.

WSBT’s Miles Garrett tweets the Bears are set to try out Kyle Sloter. After he quarantines and clears health protocols, of course.
Sloter, 26, has mounds of preseason and practice squad experience. He has spent time with the Broncos (2017), Vikings (2017-18), Cardinals (2019), and Lions (2019). So, at a minimum, Sloter could possibly provide an inkling on how the Vikings and Lions operate. After all, it’s always fun to pick the brain of a former division rival. No harm, no foul there. And maybe Sloter has some insight on Kliff Kingsbury’s Cardinals offense? Hey, it couldn’t hurt to ask!
I’d be foolish to project what a fourth QB could bring to Chicago. Particularly ones with minimal experience. But if the Bears get to a point where they need to quarantine a quarterback at some point this season, it’s good that they’ll have some recent workouts to fall back on if necessary.
