Wide receiver is one of the most crowded positions on the Bears’ roster.
As it stands, Chicago has 11 players with the “WR” designation at Halas Hall. And even if Cordarrelle Patterson is spending more time in the running backs room these days, that still feels like a lot.
So what’s one more for the group?
The #Bears agreed to terms with former #Vikings and #Colts WR Rodney Adams, source said. Adams retired a couple years ago, then was reinstated this past January … now gets a fresh start in Chicago.

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero tweets the Bears are signing Rodney Adams.
Adams, 25, was a fifth-round pick (170th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Vikings selected Adams out of South Florida, after he posted consecutive 822-yard receiving seasons for the Bulls. Adams also had plenty of kick return experience at USF, returning 46 for 1,140 yards (24.8-yard average) and scoring a touchdown. The 6-1 receiver ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2017. And that type of speed is always valuable.
Unfortunately for Adams, that play-making ability hasn’t been on display much in the NFL. Adams was waived by the Vikings in October 2017, but then joined the practice squad. He later signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts in February 2018. However, he landed on the reserve/retired list in April 2018 and hasn’t played football since. Adams was waived on August 2 after being reinstated from the reserve/retired list in January 2020.
Where Adams fits in the Bears’ scheme will be determined by how he performs in training camp. But seeing that kick return experience on his résumé leads me to believe his future could be in special teams.
