Player-to-player comps are tired, but player-to-fictional-character comps are totally inspired.
After drafting Cole Kmet in the second-round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy compared the Notre Dame product to Robocop.
Yes, that Robocop:
Matt Nagy on new Bears TE Cole Kmet: "We were joking, he’s like Robocop. He can block, he can catch, he can do a lot of good things."

Listed at 6-6 and 262 pounds and possessing a unique and varied skill set, I can see the Robocop comp. Sure, I’ll allow it. NFC North opponents might not feel it’s fair to roster a super-human cyborg. But I simply do not value their opinions on the matter.
And to think, that’s not where this story ends.
Because while fielding questions from the assembled media at Halas Hall, third-year cornerback Kevin Toliver II dropped an equally impressive comp on new tight end Jimmy Graham:
Kevin Toliver asked what Jimmy Graham is like. “Like the terminator.”

Jimmy Graham is “like the Terminator” is not something I expected to read this summer. Then again, I wasn’t sure Graham was a fit for the Bears after the Packers cut him last winter. Nevertheless, Graham remains a hulking figure — even at this stage of his career. Graham still towers over defensive backs and should be able to use his body to catch everything. So, yeah, I can see why Toliver dropped a Terminator comp on Graham.
As it stands, the Bears have the Terminator and Robocop at the top of the tight end depth chart. That’s quite the improvement over what the team had going into the 2019 season. Because, with all due respect to Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen, I didn’t see anyone dropping action-hero comps on either last summer.
I suppose the only thing left to do is to coax Megatron out of retirement to complete the set … right?
