On the field, Cordarrelle Patterson is a source of joy.
He’s basically must-see-TV whenever he is on the field and has the ball in his hands. Because at any given moment, he can take it to the house and put a touchdown on the scoreboard. Even when he isn’t on offense or returning kicks, it’s easy to nerd out while watching Patterson’s special teams contributions as a gunner.
In addition to all that good football-y stuff, Patterson is a source of hope when behind the mic. With his latest contribution being optimism surrounding the Bears’ offensive line.
No … seriously:
“Hats off to to the offensive line, man. They’ve been working their ass off this whole camp with a new coach that’s trying to get better each and every day. Those guys are doing a hell of a job, man. I can sit here and say them boys are working, they’re really working.”
Unlike the quarterback battle that gets constant updates, progress reports for the offensive line aren’t as readily available. Which is ironic in a sense. Think about it. Without a successful offensive line, whichever quarterback wins the derby has little chance to be successful anyway. And that says nothing about its impact on wide receivers, running backs, and tight ends.
So to hear Patterson confirm he’s seeing the offensive line’s work pay off is music to my ears. Should this group get back to its 2018 form, the Bears will be better for it.
