The Chicago Bears’ 53-man roster is already undergoing changes.
Not even 24 hours after the roster was finalized, the Bears are adding depth to their defensive line:
The #Bears have agreed to terms with veteran DE Mario Edwards, source says. Former second-round pick was released by the #Saints yesterday.

NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reports the team is signing defensive end Mario Edwards. A second-round pick by the Raiders in 2015, Edwards arrives in Chicago set to play for his fourth different team in as many years. Previously, he spent time with the Giants (2018) and Raiders (2015-17).
Edwards, 26, played 14 games for the Saints in 2019. He collected three sacks, 8 tackles, 2 tackles-for-loss, 3 QB Hits, and 1 forced fumble in a reserve role. I imagine he’ll resume that kind of gig in Chicago behind the likes of Akiem Hicks, Bilal Nichols, and Roy Robertson-Harris.
Chicago needs to move someone off the roster in order to place Edwards on the roster. As things currently stand, the Bears are rostering five defensive linemen. The group looks solid, but could use another rotational body seeing that nose tackle Eddie Goldman opted of out playing in 2020.
