David Montgomery’s groin injury has been a cause for concern since it popped up in late August. And with early optimism regarding a quick return being met by reports that he could be “doubtful” for Week 1, concern lingered.
But we’ve finally made it to game day and it sounds like the Bears’ lead back is ready to roll:
#Bears RB David Montgomery, listed as questionable with a groin injury, is expected to play today vs the #Lions, source says. He should receive his full workload. … WR Cordarrelle Patterson (knee, questionable) is also good to go.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport hears Montgomery is expected to play with a FULL WORKLOAD in Sunday’s opener against the Lions.
Montgomery appeared to progress quickly in the recovery process. At least, quickly enough for him to be regarded as healthy enough to get a full snap share on Sunday. Montgomery was limited on the first injury report, but was a full participant on Thursday and Friday. Ultimately, news of Montgomery getting the green light to give it a full go is welcome news for the Bears. Let’s face it. The depth chart behind Montgomery leaves something to be desired.
