The Falcons were going to be in for a rough ride as they tried to bounce back from their soul-crushing Week 2 loss against the Cowboys.
And it won’t be easier after reading this injury report:

A bevy of key Falcons players didn’t practice on Wednesday. Among them were starting tackles Jake Matthews and Kaleb McGary, high-profile free-agent pass-rusher Dante Fowler Jr., and all-world wide receiver Julio Jones. That’s all sorts of yikes on the injury front. It’s as messy as an injury report gets at Week 3.
Recent reports indicated McGary isn’t expected to play this week. That’ll be key because Khalil Mack is often lined up over the right tackle. But seeing 2018 Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Matthews on the injury report is doubly painful. And it could mean extra trouble for the Falcons’ protection and blocking schemes. Then seeing Jones, one of the game’s best receivers, sidelined by a hamstring injury and it’s that much more problematic.
As if things couldn’t get any gloomier than they already were for a Falcons team coming off a loss that would make coughing up a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl blush.
