Watching the Bears lose to the Rams on Monday Night Football hurt.
And then I saw the first injury report of the week, which has me realizing there’s even more pain on the horizon.
Khalil Mack, Cordarrelle Patterson, Cody Whitehair, and Allen Robinson missed practice due to their respective injuries. That’s the Bears’ all-world pass-rusher, all-everything return specialist, Pro Bowl center, and best offensive player sitting out. Ouch, babe.
Mack missed practice due to an ankle injury. This is notable, as this is the third different injury that has put Mack on the injury report. Last week, it was back soreness. And before that, it was a knee. Chicago isn’t equipped to deal without Mack. Then again, no one missing their top pass-rusher ever is.
Let’s not overlook injuries to Patterson (quad) and Whitehair (calf). The Bears are already without one return specialist because of Tarik Cohen’s season-ending injury. And in the case of Whitehair, Chicago can’t afford to be down another lineman just weeks after losing James Daniels to IR. Same can be said about Robinson, whose importance to this offense cannot be overstated. Robinson is in concussion protocol, which puts his status for Sunday’s game against the Saints in doubt.
Sigh. Here’s the injury report in its totality:

Seeing Eddie Jackson (knee) and Cole Kmet (back) as limited is troublesome, as well. However, the Bears could be treating these two with the utmost caution after having played just two nights ago. I’ll be curious to hear what Head Coach Matt Nagy has to say about the pile of injuries when he meets the media on Thursday.
