It was only a matter of time until Bears receiver Javon Wims faced punishment for punching Saints cornerback Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.
And here’s the sentence:

Wims’ two-game suspension comes for throwing the punches that started the ruckus during the third quarter of the Bears’ loss to the Saints. It’s a league-issued suspension for Wims. Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan cites a specific rule violation that prohibits exactly what Wims did on Sunday. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport tweets Wims will appeal the suspension, as is his right under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. However, it’s clear that Wims violated Rule 12, Section 2, Article 14(c) of the NFL rule book.
Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy was rather displeased with Wims in his post-game press conference, and while meeting the media today. And even after getting an expanded explanation as to what happened, I still come away disappointed and embarrassed that it even came to that. In any case, we’ll see if Wims can get that suspension trimmed to one game (if at all).
