Ted Ginn Jr.’s time as the Bears’ punt returner ended when he was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Saints. Days later, Ginn’s run in Chicago is almost officially over.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Bears are parting ways with the speedster:
Another post-trade-deadline move: Bears have released veteran WR Ted Ginn, per source.

Ginn, 35, caught 3 passes for 40 yards in six games. And while Ginn wasn’t brought in to put up big numbers in the receiving game, his non-presence as a returner after Tarik Cohen went on IR proved he didn’t have much of a role on the squad. The Bears have since added Dwayne Harris to return punts, thus signaling the end of Ginn’s time in Chicago.
There was a time when Ginn was higher on the receiver depth chart, but he has since been lapped by rookie Darnell Mooney. To Mooney’s credit, this development is more about his growth than Ginn’s decline. In any case, a one-year offseason signing who raved about Matt Nagy’s recruiting efforts made it just six games in Chicago. That’s not totally ideal.
