A beleaguered Bears offensive line will soon get some much-needed help. Jason Spriggs, the team’s swing tackle, is making his way back into the fold.
#Bears Roster Moves:
We have activated DB Michael Joseph (IR) and
OL Jason Spriggs from Reserve/COVID-19.— Chicago Bears (@BearsPR) November 9, 2020
Spriggs tested positive for COVID-19 last week and was unavailable for Sunday’s game against the Titans.
(MICHAEL: And in case you forgot, he’s hardly the only one The Bears offensive line has been absolutely obliterated by the lack of health over the past several weeks. So any help they can get is a very big boost in an increasingly frustrating season. I suppose we’ll have to update our “Alright, So Here’s Who’s Left Among the Healthy Bears Offensive Linemen” post sometime soon.)
Bears Offensive Line
To be clear, there’s no good time to be sidelined by coronavirus. But there couldn’t have been a worse time for a Bears offensive line that was already down four offensive linemen. Jason Spriggs would’ve started for right tackle Bobby Massie before landing before being sidelined. And with that in mind, I imagine he’ll take that spot when he is available and at full strength. What that does for the rest of the Bears offensive line is to be determined.
Rashaad Coward shifted from left guard to right tackle for Week 9. But no matter what offensive line spot he has manned in his short career, the mistakes and misplays have mounted up. So while he could return to left guard, it’s possible Chicago could go in a different direction to shake up the line in search of a boost. We’ll keep an eye on the situation as it develops.
The announcement was one of two roster moves the Bears made on Monday. In addition to the Spriggs news, defensive back Michael Joseph has been activated from injured reserve. And with fellow DB Sherrick McManis suffering a broken finger, it makes sense for the team to activate someone who could potentially help from a depth perspective.
