There was a time when Chicago’s running backs room looked like it was in dire need of a boost. And while Lamar Miller’s provided depth during a time of need in Week 10, his time with the Bears is coming to and end.
Miller is headed to our nation’s capital:
Source tells me Washington Football has signed Lamar Miller off the Bears practice squad. That means he will be active this week.

The Washington Football Team is signing Miller from the Bears’ practice squad, which elevates him into active status. Miller signed with the Bears’ practice squad after Tarik Cohen went down with a season-ending injury in Week 3, but didn’t appear in a game until Week 10. It was the only game he’d appear in while with Chicago. MIller’s six yards on two receptions against the Vikings is all he accumulated in his 5 offensive snaps. That’s right. He didn’t even garner one carry. That’s odd for a running back. Then again, it’s not as if the Bears have consistently committed to pursuing a ground game this season.
Washington needs running back help as much as Chicago did a few weeks ago, as stud rookie Antonio Gibson suffered an injury that is keeping him out of action. I suppose the Bears didn’t feel the need to move Miller to their own active roster because David Montgomery and Cordarrelle Patterson are healthy. However, we’re familiar with how quickly backfield depth can erode.
In any case, best of luck to Miller in Washington. He’ll join a team out east that is in the hunt for a division title. And if Miller can lend a helping hand, it could help the Bears in the long run. Think about it. If Washington wins the NFC East, that takes one quarterback-needy team out from in front of Chicago as far as the 2021 NFL Draft order goes. Talk about playing the long game!
