Whether it’s as The MMQB or as NBC Sports’ Football Morning In America guy, Peter King’s columns are always informative and entertaining. And this week’s submission is no different.
Earlier, we tackled the latest twist in the Chicago Bears’ pursuit of quarterback Russell Wilson. But there’s another Bears-centric nugget that caught my eye, and it has to do with the 2021 schedule.

Based on the scheduling formula for a 17th game in 2021, the Bears would play the Las Vegas Raiders. Additionally, King believes AFC teams would host this season’s extra game. And for those of us who like to travel and watch the Bears on the road, this means the Bears-Raiders matchup will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas.
Pardon me while I clear my 2021 schedule to position myself for a Vegas trip that includes a Bears game at a sparkling new facility.
Adding this schedule quirk is interesting for a number of reasons. Gruden-Mack II: Electric Boogaloo would be neat. Nick Kwiatkoski revenge game, any one? Playing the same AFC team for the second time in three years would be unique. Will Derek Carr start at QB for the Raiders or Bears? Or has that ship already sailed? Both the Raiders and Bears are on Russell Wilson’s reported short-list of preferred trade destinations. Just saying…
And then there’s this: If Bears-Raiders square off in Vegas, it would mark the fourth different place in which these two teams have played in their last four showdowns. It was in Oakland in 2011, Chicago in 2015, England in 2019, and Vegas would make it four in 2021. I’m not sure if that’s ever happened before, but it’s a fun factoid.
In any case, a Bears-Raiders game adds an extra pinch of intrigue to a schedule that already figures to be challenging enough. But would you have it any other way?
