Maybe instead of insisting on taking big swings this offseason, perhaps the Chicago Bears front office should re-think their approach at the plate. Perhaps shortening their stroke and putting the ball in play would be a more prudent method moving forward. Because we are now two weeks into free agency, and the team’s efforts to bolster the offense have fallen shy of the warning track.
Here’s the latest target to not join the Bears:

The Bears were reportedly showing interest in Bills free agent receiver Isaiah McKenzie last week. And while we don’t know the extent of Chicago’s interest, McKenzie’s return to Buffalo suggests it wasn’t enough to pry him away from the defending AFC East champs.
McKenzie, 25, made starts in seven of the 16 games he played for the Bills in 2020. He set career bests in receptions (30), receiving yards (282), and touchdowns scored (5). It was a breakout year for McKenzie, who collected just 49 passes, 462 receiving yards, and 1 touchdown in 34 games between 2017-19. Even still … you could squint and see McKenzie’s upside and note his 2020 as a sign that he was only now coming into his own. And he still might be. But if it happens, it will be with the Bills and not the Bears.
Chicago’s quest for help on offense continues…
