Editor’s note: Upon further review of the audio, there is clarification that needs to be made about what Florida QB Kyle Trask said in interviews. In our original post, we re-shared a tweet from Bear Report’s Zack Pearson that relayed Trask saying he was working out with Andy Dalton, Carson Wentz, and Jared Goff. But after reviewing the audio, the clarification is that Trask is working with 3DQB, the quarterback coaching gurus whose clients include Dalton, Wentz, Goff, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Eli Manning, Tim Tebow, Marcus Mariota, among others.
Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s discuss Trask as a possible Bears target.
There was a time last fall when Kyle Trask was seen as a potential first-round pick.
Trask finished the season completing 68.9 percent of his passes, 4,283 passing yards, 43 touchdowns, and just 8 interceptions. He was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and earned second-team All-SEC honors. But stumbling down the stretch with five interceptions over his last three college games left many with a sour taste. Then again, the Bears were in attendance for Trask’s finest hour — a six-touchdown night against Arkansas in November. In any case, it’s probably a good thing that Trask is seeking additional guidance before even being drafted.
We already know the Bears’ general manager, head coach, offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and scouts are leaving no stone left unturned in their search for a quarterback.
Soon, perhaps they’ll get some insight from QB1:
Bear Report’s Zack Pearson tweets an anecdote from Florida quarterback Kyle Trask, who says he has been working out with Dalton, Jared Goff, and Carson Wentz. That’s … interesting, to say the least.
It’s not unusual to see quarterbacks working together. And it’s definitely noteworthy that a draft prospect is seeking to workout with established veteran signal callers. But the layers here are fun to peel back. Dalton is working with Wentz, whose name was hot on the rumor mill as a possible Bears trade target, and Goff, who worked out with the Bears’ former QB1 in previous offseasons. And now Trask, who could conceivably be chosen by Chicago in the 2021 NFL Draft is working out with all of them? It’s a small world, to be sure. But come on … you can’t script it like this! Even Hollywood would reject this on sight.
I can’t get past Trask working out with happens to be Dalton, who plays for a team who could very well draft his replacement this coming April. And now that I’m thinking about it, I can’t get over the galaxy-brain thought of this being some sort of red herring. Even more outrageous is the thought that the Bears would get Dalton in on the deal. The would be a next-level scout job if Chicago convinced Dalton to do some recon work with Trask. I mean, I suppose it couldn’t hurt.
