Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms reading this.
And for those of you who aren’t moms, just know it’s not too late to do something nice for Mother’s Day.
Just saying…
• What a difference one pick can make:

Justin Fields represents a chance to smash an endless cycle of QB heartbreak in Chicago. Can the Bears’ brass help him pull it off?

• You’d think that being one week removed from the 2021 NFL Draft would have me not wanting to read any more post-draft write-ups. But you’d be wrong. That’s because it’s truly enjoyable reading about the Bears draft this year. It’s a totally different vibe than it was *BEFORE* the draft, that’s for sure. And it’s not just that Chicago’s draft class is getting praise from here, there, and everywhere. It’s the praise about the players they selected. I must say it’s far more fun to discuss players chosen by the Bears than grovel about the ones they didn’t.
• Also … the post-pick image edits have been straight-up fire:

• The image above is *chef’s kiss* good. And it really tells a story of being a QB-starved Bears fan. This piece of art is what someone is talking about when they say “a picture is worth a thousand words.”
• And because I know you’re curious, here’s how the rest of the NFC North grades out: Lions (5th), Vikings (12th), Packers (24th). For more NFC North draft analysis, check out Gennaro Filice’s breakdown of what happened within the Bears’ division.
• Seeing the Lions in the top-5 is mildly annoying. A clean slate with a new regime led by a new GM and fresh eyes at head coach have the narrative shifting in Detroit. The Lions’ rebuild reminds me of one of those big trucks trying to make a right turn at a city intersection. It might take a while before it reaches its destination. But if it’s done correctly, it’ll get there. Then again, even if it does, there is an expectation that Justin Fields and friends will be there waiting for the challenge.

• A real-life Van Wilder is joining Panthers camp:
Former UNLV, Sacramento State and Washington QB Kevin Thomson will try out for the #Panthers at next week’s rookie minicamp, per source. Carolina extended the invite quickly after Thomson — who opted to forgo an eighth season of college eligibility — went undrafted.
