With the first weekend of rookie minicamp in the books, it was only a matter of time until we saw the resumption of the roster churn.
This is the first of what I figure to be several roster shuffles we’ll see between the now and the start of training camp:
#Bears roster moves:
We have signed WR Chris Lacy and have waived LB Michael Pinckney.— Chicago Bears (@BearsPR) May 16, 2021
The Bears are adding wide receiver Chris Lacy to their roster. Lacy, 25, was at rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. Clearly, he did enough to draw some positive reviews and land on Chicago’s roster. Lacy has some professional experience. The Oklahoma State product went undrafted in 2018, but played eight games over two seasons with the Lions in 2018 and 2019. He also had brief stints with the Patriots (2018) after the draft and Cowboys’ practice squad (2020).
To clear space for Lacy on the roster, the team waived linebacker Michael Pinckney.
Swapping out linebacker depth for receiver depth is a small detail. But I can’t help but wonder if it makes more sense to have as many available pass-catching bodies as humans possible while having three quarterbacks in camp. It’s just a thought and not something to read too much into at this stage of the offseason.
