Well, the Chicago Bears certainly kicked a hornets nest with their announcement that they were bidding for the Arlington International Racecourse property, which could be a sensible landing spot as their next home.
But don’t think Chicago’s mayor Lori Lightfooot — a Bears season-ticket holder — will just let this slide without putting up a fight. And definitely not without landing some jabs along the way:

Get your popcorn ready, Bears fans. This is about to get GOOD.
Fans of a certain age are familiar with the tactics going on here. Whether it’s the White Sox moving to St. Pete. Or the Cubs flirting with Rosemont. And even the Bears toying with the idea of Gary, Ind., as a future home. This is just a new chapter in a lengthy story. And one that could get entertaining with someone openly willing to zing the franchise for its failures against That Team In Wisconsin.
I’ll be curious to see how this all shakes out. It’s not like this will be pushed through quickly. We’ve got plenty of time to sort through what’s to come. In the meantime, I’ve got my kernels, cooking oil, and butter ready. Just gotta turn the popcorn machine on to let it warm up.
