As we turn our eyes to the approach of training camp(s), we’ll start thinking about things like which players have the most motivation heading into the 2021 campaign.
And by the sound of things, David Montgomery is hungry as heck:
This installment of Mic’d Up is a treat. It features Montgomery, Roquan Smith, and a variety of fun conversations. Jokes about Joel Iyiegbuniwe having no friends and playing solitaire as his game. Hype from the defense. The normal grunts and sounds of a workout practice. But the most fun stuff features Montgomery.
Chuckles about how his smiling was a dead giveaway that he was mic’d up. A glimpse of catching a pass from Justin Fields. Prodding Matt Nagy to practice with pads so he can run the ball. But ultimately, it’s that “I’m built for Sundays” quip that gets me.
Montgomery wants the ball. And who can blame him? Other than Allen Robinson II, Montgomery was the Bears’ most prolific offensive contributor last season. Because while Mitchell Trubisky’s late-season heater was eye-opening, it was Montgomery’s running down the stretch that carried the Bears into the postseason. Moving forward, doing it again could go a long way toward lifting Andy Dalton, Justin Fields, and the rest of the offense.
So give him the rock and let him cook. Because that’s what you’re supposed to do when a mic’d up guy says “at the end of the year, I’m going to make y’all pay.”
