Watching David Montgomery go down (and not get up) in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s Bears win against the Lions did a number in taking the wind out of our sails. Montgomery had already bulldozed his way to a 20+ carry, 100+ yard, 2 TD game by the time the injury happened. And when Montgomery walked off the field, it was easy to default to fearing the worst.
But before we go down the darkest path, let’s wait and see how test results go:
#Bears RB David Montgomery, who left with a knee injury, will have an MRI tomorrow, source said. The initial belief based on early tests is that the hyperextended knee did not lead to a major injury. But the additional tests will tell the full story.

Early returns on tests suggest the injury is a hyperextended knee, and, apparently not a major injury. That breeze you felt was a sigh of relief from Bears fans, players, coaches, executives, and anyone who roots on No. 32 for Chicago’s football team. Obviously, more tests will provide a full scope. But the initial belief isn’t one of total doom, and that’s silver lining I’ll gladly accept.
But we’re not out of the woods just yet. Depending on the severity of the injuries suffered by Montgomery and Damien Williams (quad), the Bears could be down their top three running backs (Tarik Cohen remains on IR while recovering from an ACL injury that happened in Week 3 last year).
The Bears’ healthy running backs are rookie Khalil Herbert and practice squad player Ryan Nall. Based on the lack of depth at that position, I imagine the Bears will be looking to bring in some players on a tryout basis in preparation of scenarios that merit the team searching for help.
In the meantime, heal up big man:
YOU ARE AN AWESOME GOD !!!
