Every gamer has that friend who chooses the same play over and over again when you duke it out on Madden.
It turns out that Sean McVay is that friend.
Moreover, the Seahawks were the friend who had no idea how to stop what was coming:
They just had different players run differnt routes.
In the clip, Kupp ran what they call the "special route" which is just a deep over.
Woods ran the "skinny" and Higeee ran the "coin pivot"

Hits Kupp in the “special” route here
Defense in mable and that’s just too much space for the LB to cover https://t.co/ZSdXj6vYc8

Kudos to The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen. Firstly, for spotting it in real time and putting a pin in it. Secondly, for going back to review and confirm what he saw the previous night. And thirdly, sharing it with the football community.
I used to get a chuckle out of the cliché about how doing the same thing over and over again is insanity. But who knew there was truth in the thing Albert Einstein never said. But maybe it isn’t insanity to do the same thing over and over again. And instead, maybe the insanity part is in it working the way you drew it up.
That the Rams are building successful route trees for multiple pass catchers, running it over again, and doing it successfully is nuts. There are times where you feel – as a Bears fan – that they can’t get any offensive play right. But the Rams are out here doing one play on repeat with multiple players moving the chains. My hat is off to you, Sean McVay. But now I’m gonna hit the Engage Eight defense out of rage just to see what happens.
