Seven Bears were ruled inactive for their Monday Night Football showdown against the Steelers, but two stand out above the rest.

Safety Eddie Jackson and pass-rusher Khalil Mack won’t play on MNF. Being without a pair of stars isn’t unexpected. But it doesn’t make it sting any less.
Jackson played just two snaps before suffering a hamstring injury in the Bears’ Week 8 loss to the 49ers. Prior to going down with the injury on Chicago’s second defensive snap, Jackson had been in on each of the team’s defensive plays. Sure, the tackling component of his game has been lacking this seasons. However, the Bears were missing Jackson in coverage after the Niners made halftime adjustments last week. Things line up for DeAndre Houston-Carson to start in Jackson’s place.
As for Mack, his absence was also expected. Mack didn’t play against San Francisco last week and there wasn’t a realistic chance he would play against Pittsburgh. The star quarterback sack artist has been nursing a foot injury for a chunk of the season, and the team is letting him rest it for an extended period of time. Perhaps some good news will come down the line regarding progress after taking a few weeks off. We’ll see.
Some notable additions to the lineup in the wake of the inactives release. Firstly, linebackers Cassius Marsh and Sam Kamara have been flexed from the practice squad to the active roster. Marsh, who spent some time with the Steelers in the preseason, signed on with the Bears this week. Kamara, who was waived from the active roster the same day Marsh came in, quickly re-signed with the practice squad and re-joins the game day roster.
And not to be totally lost in the shuffle, Germain Ifedi has been removed from the COVID reserve list. Although, he remains on IR.
