As you know by now, the Chicago Bears are riding a struggle bus down the stretch of what has been a mostly dismal season.
Head Coach Matt Nagy’s hot seat is warming considerably. Chants for his firing have rung out at Bulls, Blackhawks, Fighting Illini, and high school football games. But getting so much of that noise has made it easy to lose sight of GM Ryan Pace’s status.
But perhaps that will change soon:
Anybody else hear that the Bears are searching for a new GM? 😉…. Asking for a friend. @alexbrown96 @olin_kreutz @thekapman @LaurenceWHolmes @leilarahimi @BoyleNBCS @PanzUSE

There has been chatter surrounding possible changes at the top of the Bears’ organization with Pace’s possible departure being among the moves. But now we have someone suggesting it could be happening. Maybe. Or perhaps he is just trying to tweet it into existence. Just know that this isn’t Briggs’ first rodeo in this regard.
Remember, Briggs teased Tony La Russa landing the White Sox managerial job in late October 2020. Briggs sent a tweet on Oct. 28, 2020 saying: “I can see an old Sox coach returning today..👀” one day before the hiring. It was an interestingly timed strong hint from Briggs because – while being an analyst who works at NBC Sports Chicago for football programming – it was impossible to ignore that he was working for the network carrying White Sox games, and very easily could be hearing things. Sometimes, you work in a newsroom, you hear stuff. In other words, you can take it with a grain of salt. But maybe Briggs is giving some inside scoopage on his own beat. And perhaps this is his way of sharing a dish. At minimum, it’s an interesting development on this timeline.
One of the most unique things about living in 2021 is that anyone can be a news-breaker. And in a city like Chicago, where everybody knows somebody, it can bring out folks who have nuggets and tidbits who you wouldn’t expect to have them.
Then again, since this isn’t Briggs’ first foray, maybe we should come to expect the unexpected. Stay tuned…
