Fittingly enough, with Star Wars on TNT playing the background, Luke’s turn to the Dark side is official.
Per the Chicago Bears:
We have hired Luke Getsy as our offensive coordinator.
Welcome to Chicago, Luke! 🐻⬇️

Luke Getsy is leaving the Green Bay Packers to become the Bears’ new offensive coordinator. And with Matt Eberflus being a defensive-leaning head coach, that comes with some perks. Hence, Getsy’s departure from the Cheesedoodles.
At the top of the list, full autonomy in building a playbook, offensive scheme, and play-calling responsibilities. None of that was on the table had Getsy taken a promotion with the Packers, where he had gigs during two different stints. In his first run with Green Bay, Getsy was an offensive quality control coach (2014-15) and receivers coach (2016-17). After an interlude at Mississippi State in 2018 as the Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator and receivers coach, Getsy went back to Green Bay in 2019. He began his return trip as the Packers’ quarterbacks coach before adding the passing game coordinator gig to his duties in 2020.
Things have been pointing to this happening over the last few days, but it’s still nice to have it officially on the books.
In Chicago, Getsy’s responsibilities will reach another level. Because in addition to creating a scheme and system for which he’ll call plays, he will be the top offensive voice in Chicago. In other words, he might as well be the head coach of the offense’s side of the ball. And with that, comes the duty of developing Justin Fields. The road to developing a toolsy quarterback prospect into a stud quarterback isn’t always smooth, but Getsy will be in charge of making sure those bumps don’t derail Fields’ path. And while he is doing that, Getsy will try to get an offense that ranked 27th, 22nd, and 29th in scoring the last three years out of the dumps and into a much better place.
The good news is that there is nowhere to go up for Getsy and his gang. We’ll have more on Getsy later.
