Free agency kicks off in just a few weeks. And considering the many needs across the roster, the Bears figure to be following along closely. Especially at wide receiver, where the situation in Dallas could have implications for Chicago:
Cowboys have been working on a new deal with free-agent-to-be WR Michael Gallup and a deal is considered “close,” per sources. There’s hope the two sides can get it done and keep Gallup in Dallas.

Frustrating as it may be, this makes sense for Dallas.
Prioritizing free-agent-to-be Michael Gallup is a sensible option for the Cowboys, and you should take note that a deal is reportedly “close.” Though, this is a nice reminder of how many different irons can be in the fire around the league.
Dallas is angling to create cap space by parting ways with receiver Amari Cooper, either by a cut or a trade. But in so doing they’ll still need to fill out their receivers room. And while Gallup is coming off a season-ending ACL injury, the Cowboys could see Gallup as a younger receiver with WR1 potential whose contract could be more cap friendly. Hence, an explanation as to why Dallas could be working aggressively toward a deal with Gallup.
Of course, a deal with the Cowboys and Gallup means he would be off the board for the Bears. And that would be a bummer for a player who was deemed to be a Bears fit. Then again, it could open the door for Chicago to target a different Dallas pass catcher:
