According to their own staff directory page*, the Chicago Bears have hired (now-former) Chiefs Assistant Director of College Scouting Trey Koziol. Great move! Koziol is now Chicago’s new Co-Director of Player Personnel, and just in time for free agency. Again, I love it.
The Bears have already expanded their front office by hiring Ian Cunningham into a newly created Assistant GM role. And because there is no harm in adding more minds to the mix, why not bring Koziol on board, too. Koziol, who was a teammate of Poles’ while at Boston College, also has experience as a scout with the Chiefs and Titans on top of that fancy title he had in Kansas City.
We’ll dig in more later. But for now, I say the more the merrier when it comes to bulking up in the front office. Bring on the best and brightest. Build out a front office that would be the envy of 31 other teams around the league. There are no roster limitations or salary caps on front office hires. In other words, this seems like a good place to get an edge with quality and quantity.
We’ll keep our eyes open to see if the Koziol hiring becomes officially official soon. And more importantly, if there are other “fun” things on the horizon for the Bears.
*h/t to Daniel Greenberg for noticing and pointing it out on Twitter.
