REPORT: The Bears Are “Motivated” to Trade Their Second-Round Picks For Even More Picks
The Chicago Bears are scheduled to go on the clock TWICE in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft and three times in total Friday night.
But if first-year GM Ryan Poles has his way, they’ll have more:
Comes as no surprise based on their public comments but the Bears are motivated to trade back and acquire more picks. They're slated to pick at 39 and 48 in the second.

CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Jones tweets the Bears are “motivated” to add more draft capital this weekend.
Meanwhile, this tweet feels like a strong hint confirming the Bears’ wanting to move around and gain some more picks:
Round 2 kicks off in roughly 15 minutes. We'll see what kind of players the #Bears add this evening — and possibly more picks.

They have two second-rounders — 39th and 48th overall picks — and the 71st, which comes in the third. Poles has been hammering home his desire to build through the draft since being hired in January. Since then, Poles has made it clear at several points during the offseason that he wanted to add draft picks. And to show he wasn’t bluffing, his first major transaction was packaging Khalil Mack in a trade with the Chargers to acquire their second-round pick (the 48th overall in this draft).
The Bears are a team that are building from the ashes of what the Ryan Pace regime left behind. And since Pace’s bunch left ample holes to fill, it only makes sense for his replacement to take a swing at filling them with young players. But to do so, he’ll need to trade back — maybe even twice.
There should be opportunities for the Bears to do this. After just one quarterback went off the board on the first day of the draft, there are at least three quarterbacks who could go early in the second round. And if teams want to beat rivals to the punch, trading up to the Bears spot at 39 (or even 48) might be the play.
Lookin’ at you, teams behind the Seahawks…
Sources tell @TonyPauline that it would be surprising if the Seattle Seahawks pass up a QB with either the 40th or 41st pick. He continues to hear that Seattle likes #Cincinnati QB, Desmond Ridder.#PFNReport | #NFLDrafthttps://t.co/EkkR3JGjWb
