First off, just take a deep breath and relax. Things are gonna start to change now.
Charles “Peanut” Tillman had a knack for making big plays from the cornerback position. But now, as a retired NFL player, it turns out Tillman has a way with words that carry some significance. Between his history as a ballplayer and ability to connect with others, it made sense that first-year Head Coach Matt Eberflus reached out to have Tillman speak with the rookies after the NFL Draft at the team’s rookie minicamp. And on Monday, the Bears gave a behind-the-scenes look at what Tillman told the team and gave some additional perspective with an interview.
Yeah, you’ll want to watch this one:
Differences are what makes champions. Not the similarities.
Whatever you can do to help this team win, you need to have that mindset right now.
If you want to attain and be a part of something special, which is something in this room, you’ve got to think differently. And that starts right now.
If you work hard for this team, I swear to you this city will love you.
It’s gonna get real. You’re playing with grown-ass men. Y’all ain’t in college no more. So what you thought was football, no, you’ll really gonna play some football right now. And I say that not to scare you. I’m not trying to intimidate, I’m not trying to scare you. I’m just trying to let you know what you’re in for.
Learn your playbook. That’s how you will get the respect of the veterans. When you get out there, if you know what you gotta do, you get in that playbook and y’all gonna be straight.
Good life lessons. Great football lessons. There was some good stuff to take in from the behind-the-scenes look at Tillman’s chat. Maybe some of it can be applicable as you get through the first day of the work week.
And good on the Bears for bringing Tillman back in the fold for something like this with the rookies.
