The Chicago Bears have until Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT to get their roster from 85 down to 80. But before they fully get around to doing that, they’re making some short-term roster tweaks.
The team announced the signing of fullback Jake Bargas on Sunday. In a corresponding move, wide receiver David Moore goes on IR. Moore went down with a leg injury on Aug. 9 during Bears Family Fest at Soldier Field and was carted off. The 27-year-old has 50 games of experience with the Seahawks, Broncos and Panthers after joining the league as a seventh-round pick in 2017. Moore was one of a handful of offseason additions who brought depth to the back end of the receivers room, but it looks like his season with the team is over before it could really get started.
As for Bargas, he spent some time in Minnesota each of the last two years (where he probably crossed paths with Bears QBs Coach Andrew Janocko). The 25-year-old joins the team at a time where the Bears could use an extra fullback. Khari Blasingame figures to be FB1 when the team opens up shop in Week 1, but he was lat seen in a cast on the sideline during the Bears’ preseason win last Thursday. Perhaps with that in mind, the Bears brought in Bargas to chew up some fullback snaps with Jake Tonges in the team’s preseason finale this upcoming Saturday against the Browns.
The roster move comes ahead of the Bears’ final training camp practice of the summer, which is closed to the public for Military/First Responders Day.
