Meet the Chicago Bears Practice Squad, Which Still Has Two Spots to Fill

Chicago Bears

One of my favorite tweaks to the NFL’s most recent CBA is the expansion of the practice squad.

No, it isn’t the most important thing in the football world. But adding six spots and increasing the squad from 10 to 16 gives more players opportunities to make their way into the NFL. And it gives us additional names to follow. Perhaps, most importantly, it provides good NFL teams extra spins at the wheel when it comes to player development. In short, more roster spots means more signings. And more signings means more opportunities for your scouts to unearth a diamond in the rough.

With the being said, here’s the first iteration of the Chicago Bears 2022 practice squad (which features 14 players for 16 spots):

  • QB Nathan Peterman
  • RB Darrynton Evans
  • WR Isaiah Coulter
  • WR Nsimba Webster
  • TE Chase Allen
  • G Lachavious Simmons
  • C/G Dieter Eiselen
  • DE Sam Kamara
  • DT Micah Dew-Treadway
  • DT Trevon Coley
  • LB DeMarquis Gates
  • CB Thomas Graham Jr.
  • S Davontae Harris
  • S A.J. Thomas

Keep these names in your memory banks, as there is a good chance that several of them could end up on the active roster at various points of the season. Last year, the following Bears practice squad additions played in at least one (1) game for the team: RBs Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce, WRs Dazz Newsome and Isaiah Coulter, LB Sam Kamara, CB Thomas Graham Jr., and S Teez Tabor. Also worth noting that K Brian Johnson (WFT) and OL Arlington Hambright (Pats) ended up spending time with other teams lat year. In other words think of this as a stash list or taxi squad.

And to think, even more reinforcements could be on the way:
