The list of modern-era nominees of the Pro Football Hall of Fame is OUT.
The collection of first time nominees includes Joe Thomas, Dwight Freeney, Kam Chancellor, and Darrelle Revis — all of whom I imagine NFL die-hards are familiar with from their playing days. Andre Johnson, Torry Holt, Jared Allen, Ronde Barber, and DEVIN HESTER are finalists from last year’s class who are back seeking Hall of Fame enshrinement again. And as Brad Biggs of the Tribune points out, Hester is one of nine ex-Bears who are up for nomination.
It’s a who’s who of “remember when that guy was a Bear?” list of names:
So while I’d love to make cases for Charles “Peanut” Tillman and Lance Briggs for their contributions, I still find myself miffed that Hester isn’t already in Canton. It’s time to start banging that drum again. This résumé deserves to be in the Hall:
- 20 total return TDs (14 punts, 5 kickoffs, 1 missed FG)
- Ranking first in punt return touchdowns and non-offensive scores when he retired
- Four Pro Bowl appearances and three first-team All-Pro nods
- And highlights like this:
Uh, yeah. Hester should be in. And he will get in. At least, that’s what Hester says Hall of Fame officials told him last year when he didn’t make the cut.
Hopefully, HOF voters won’t make the same mistake twice.
