Khalil Herbert had a heckuva game for the Bears on Sunday.
He collected 157 rushing yards on 20 carries, going for 7.9 yards per pop, and snagging a pair of touchdowns along the way. And he did it while coming off the bench. Herbert filling in while starter David Montgomery was out with an injury without missing a beat was impressive stuff. Throw in a team win moving the Bears’ record to 2-1, the vibes are pretty good for Herbert.
So let’s try and make ’em better by voting Herbert the NFL’s Ground Player of the Week:
Old friend Cordarrelle Patterson put up big numbers in a Falcons win. And Nick Chubb’s heroics were useful in the Browns beating the Steelers. But Herbert’s play in a pinch feels like it’s on another level. So if you feel similarly, make your vote known.
It’s not as if there isn’t a mountain of reasons to support Herbert’s cause:
With all due respect to the rest of the competition, Herbert is the right choice to make here. Don’t overthink it. Just click the box with Herbert’s name on it and pat yourself on the back for contributing to the democratic process.
The Bears haven’t had a Ground Player of the Week winner since Jordan Howard went for 109 yards and two touchdowns in Week 17 of the 2018 season. Ahhh, the good ol’ days. Back when Matt Nagy was willing to use the ground game to fuel his offensive attack. Fun times. But I’m ready to add a new name to the list.
