It feels like a familiar refrain, but here we go again: I’ve been waiting for the Bears to bring in some receiver help, so I’m glad to see some movement in that regard on the transaction wire.
The team announced the signing of wide receiver Reggie Roberson Jr. to the practice squad. Roberson, who went undrafted in 2022, fills the vacancy created when linebacker Joe Thomas left the practice squad to join the active 53-player roster. There were only two receivers on the practice squad prior to Roberson’s signing, which comes with good timing.
Adding Roberson to the practice squad is a timely transaction. The Bears just lost receiver Byron Pringle to the IR and had just five healthy receivers on their active roster. Bringing Roberson onto the practice squad brings a healthy body to the mix. And one with some upside, too.
He definitely has got some juice that comes along with running the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds:
There could be opportunities for him to get some playing time if he can grab some coach’s attention. Go get ’em, young fella. These Bears need all the help they can get in the passing game. Even if it’s from an unexpected place like an in-season UDFA addition from SMU.
