After three weeks on the outside looking in, it it will soon be Velus Jones Jr.’s time to shine in the NFL.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Jones – who was taken with the Chicago Bears’ third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft – is set to make his regular-season debut today against the New York Giants. The Bears have been operating short-handed at receiver while Jones was out with a hamstring issue. But after finally putting together a practice in which he was given a full participation designation this past Friday, things are lining up for Jones to join Chicago’s group of receivers.
And Jones is just in time to help Justin Fields, so he believes:
Fields is off to an awful start to his second season in the pros. His numbers have taken a hit, as the completion percentage (51.1%), yards/attempt (6.6), passer rating (50.0), and yards per game (99.0) are all down from where he finished as a rookie. Meanwhile, Fields owns an unsightly 8.9 INT% that is up 5.2 percentage points from his rookie campaign. I don’t imagine Jones’ arrival is a cure-all for all that ails Fields in the early going, but his presence could be helpful.
C’mon, now. Having a player who can do this type of stuff is a good thing:
Here’s to seeing it against pro defenses.
