Not even an hour ago, I was thinking about how much it stunk for the surprising Jets that rookie running back Breece Hall will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Well, they’ve made a bold move to go out, and immediate bring in a replacement, sending draft compensation to the Jaguars for running back James Robinson, per Ian Rapoport.
Hall has racked up 463 yards (5.8 YPC) and four touchdowns on the ground for the Jets in his rookie season but will be sidelined with a torn ACL and meniscus damage suffered during Sunday’s 16-9 victory against the Denver Broncos.
As for Robinson, he has 340 yards and three touchdowns on 81 carries (4.2 YPC) this season but has fallen behind Travis Etienne on the Jaguars depth chart.
Robinson — the fourth-year back out of Illinois State — got zero touches in Sunday’s loss to the Giants but ran for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns last season and has averaged 4.5 yards per carry with 18 touchdowns in three-plus seasons with Jacksonville.
The Jets are sending a conditional sixth-rounder that could become a fifth-rounder to the Jaguars for Robinson, helping them keep their run-first identity with Hall sidelined. Robinson will join Michael Carter as the primary backs in New York this season.
