When a team like the Chicago Bears is riding high after a stellar performance in a 33-14 win against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football, individual performances tend to stand out and get rewarded.
This happens to be the case with Cairo Santos, the Bears place kicker who was just named the NFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week:
Based on Monday’s performance, I thought Santos was a lock to bring home the hardware. Santos went 4-for-4 on field goals, connecting on kicks from 42, 38, 23, and 50 yards. He also made all three of his extra point tries. Every point matters when you’re playing the Pats, and Santos came through with the accuracy every time he was called upon. It was a thing of beauty.
But it’s not as if this is something new for Santos. The veteran Bears kicker has been nails since re-joining the team in 2020. Santos has been successful on 91.8% of his field goals (67-for-73) and 94.7% of extra points. And with that, our worries about Chicago’s kicking game are a thing of the past. Isn’t it great!?
