At this time last year, Robert Quinn was wrecking opposing quarterbacks at a dizzying rate en route to setting a new single-season Bears sack record.
And now, he is reportedly on his way to Philadelphia as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the standout pass-rusher is being dealt to the Eagles:
We’ve been discussing the possibility of a Quinn trade since the start of the offseason. More specifically, the Bears trading Quinn has been on our radar since GM Ryan Poles sent Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers for a second-round pick back in March. Nearly 11 months later, Poles is back at it again shipping off a stud pass-rusher for a middle-round pick. Schefter reports it is a fourth-round pick for Quinn, which isn’t an awful return all things considered.
It’s not like we didn’t see it coming. We knew the trade deadline was coming up on Nov. 1 and that Quinn was on the block.
Unfortunately, trading Quinn comes at the cost of losing a locker room leader. Bears players voted Quinn as a captain earlier this year. And with the trade news breaking during Roquan Smith’s media availability, it clearly took a toll on one captain hearing that one of his fellow leaders was leaving the team:
Oof. That stings. I can’t imagine trading a locker room leader and popular teammate is going to be easy to swallow. We’ll have more as we sort through the trade fallout soon.
